Over 2 million people in the UK and 10 million worldwide have now attended an Alpha course, an opportunity to explore the meaning of life, running in tens of thousands of churches of all denominations across the world.
Alpha at Brickhill is an opportunity for anyone to explore the Christian faith in a relaxed setting over ten thought-provoking weekly sessions, with a Saturday set aside to explore the Person and work of the Holy Spirit.
Who is it for?
The Alpha course is for everyone, especially:
- People who want to investigate Christianity
- New Christians
- Newcomers to the Church
- People wanting to brush up on the basics of Christianity
Our courses usually attract a diverse range of guests of different ages and backgrounds, holding many different viewpoints. Guests attend for a variety of reasons - some want to investigate whether God exists; others are concerned about what happens after death. Some people have particular questions that they would like to discuss; others want to understand other people's beliefs or would like to explore what life is all about. Many guests have never been to church, others may have attended church occasionally but feel they have never really understood the basics of the Christian faith. All are welcome just to come and explore.
Course content
The talks cover the following topics, which people are free to discuss in their groups afterwards:
- Does God exist?
- Who is Jesus?
- What about the resurrection?
- Why did Jesus die?
- Why and how do I pray?
- Why and how should I read the Bible?
- How does God guide us?
- The Holy Spirit
- Does God heal today?
- What about the Church?
How the course works
The course is based around small groups of up to 12 people, hosted by one or two leaders whose role is to facilitate and encourage discussion.
Each session begins with a meal - a chance to get to know others in the small group. There is then a short talk, which looks at a different aspect of the Christian faith each week. This is then followed by a time of discussion in the small groups, where everyone is welcome to contribute, ask questions and discuss with the rest of the group. The emphasis is upon exploration and discovery in a relaxed and informal environment.
We run two Alpha courses at Brickhill. Our morning course is held from 10.00am - 12noon (crèche available). Our evening course runs from 7.30 - 9.45pm. Both are fun and friendly and offer a safe environment to explore Christianity.
There is no charge for attending Alpha although you are welcome to make a contribution towards the food.
