Operation Tanzania Print E-mail

In 1984, two of our members went to work in central Tanzania. They told us about the needs of the people they met, including a mother with no clothes for her new born baby. Starting Operation Tanzania was our response. Since then together with other churches we have sent 38 20-foot containers of boxes full of much needed items.

The need continues, and so does Operation Tanzania. A team of packers meet on Tuesday afternoons in the main back hall of the Church Centre.

We send to:
- An orphanage
- Nursery schools
- Primary schools
- A secondary school
- Hospitals
- Bible colleges (where other skills are also taught such as carpentry and sewing)
- To pastors and evangelists, and their families.

We send:

- Carpentry tools, sewing machines, material, scissors, needles, pins, ribbon, elastic, tape measures, buttons, bandages, medical equipment, medical text books and rubber gloves.
- Clean lightweight clothing for men, women, children and babies, anoraks, flat shoes (scrubbed and polished), forks, spoons, mugs, terry towelling nappies, blankets, sheets, pillowcases, towels and soap.
- Toys, exercise books, paper, drawing pads, pens, pencils, crayons and educational aids.

We don't send toy guns, battery operated toys, underwear, socks or women's trousers, or anything that is dirty or broken. The items we send are distributed by our own church contacts in central Tanzania.

If you would like more information about Operation Tanzania then please contact Barbara Cox or Margaret Thomas via the Church Office.
