Elders & Trustees Print E-mail

Brickhill is led by a team of men recognised as being called by God to govern this church. The Biblical title for this role is “elder”, so that’s what we use. The senior leadership team is comprised of elders and several others, who serve as Company Trustees along with the elders.

These are the Brickhill elders and trustees:

Richard Green - Lead Elder & Trustee

Richard was recognised as lead elder in February 2010 having joined the eldership team at Brickhill in 1999. Previously he led a church in Birmingham for seven years, and prior to this he had jobs in engineering and insurance, and trained at Spurgeon’s College. He is involved in preaching and teaching at Brickhill, and is particularly responsible for keeping the church outward-looking. He oversees the Alpha courses at Brickhill and is an Alpha Regional Advisor. He loves seeing people’s lives transformed by Jesus, and is passionate about seeing the church reflect the full extent of God’s purposes. Richard is married to Ginny and they have two children. He loves playing sport, especially squash, enjoys eating chocolate and supports the Bedford Blues and Aston Villa.

Jonathan Jeacocke - Elder & Trustee

Jonathan is the Vice President of engineering at DisplayLink, a fabless semi-conductor start-up company based in Cambridge. He moved to Bedford from Scotland in 1990 and has been an elder at Brickhill since 2005. His role at Brickhill involves leadership, music, and technology. Jonathan longs to see more and more Christians living their life to the full, and for Brickhill to increasingly express the diversity of God’s family. He and his wife Helen have two children. Jonathan not only enjoys gadgets, he knows how they work!

Mervyn Thomas - Elder & Trustee

Mervyn is Brickhill’s treasurer, having retired (kind of) from working variously as a research physicist, semiconductor engineer, business development, financial controller and accounting systems developer. He is now chairman, previously treasurer, of YMCA Bedfordshire, sits as trustee for three Newfrontiers churches, and serves a number of churches with financial and accounting advice. He is married to Margaret who helps run Operation Tanzania. Mervyn is very involved with encouraging self-sustaining projects in Africa. He and Margaret enjoy travel and walking, and Mervyn can often be found trawling the web for anything interesting or a bargain!

Matt Dent - Trustee

Matt and his wife Catherine have been members of Brickhill since 2007, having moved to Bedford from St Ives. Matt works as a toxicologist and is especially interested in chemicals that interfere with normal reproduction and development. He’s so interested, in fact, that he can explain what that means. He leads one of Brickhill’s growth groups and loves exploring with others what it means to be a Christian in 21st Century Bedford. When not helping to look after his baby son, Solomon, Matt enjoys cookery and music.

Ian Riches - Trustee

Ian works as an automotive electronics analyst for a Milton Keynes-based research company. He started being part of Brickhill Baptist Church in 1992, despite living in Bury St. Edmunds at the time. The fact that his then-girlfriend-now-wife, Caroline, lived in Bedford, and did not own a car may just have had something to do with it. Ian has a passion for teaching the Word of God, and loves seeing that "lightbulb moment" when people "get it". Caroline and Ian have a son, Christopher. The letter "C" features prominently in Ian's list of favourite things: Caroline, Christopher, Curry, Computers, Cars, Cameras...

David Sessions - Company Secretary

David is a member of staff and is the Church Manager at Brickhill, having previously worked for the Ministry of Agriculture as a farm advisor, and then project manager in soil and water research. He and his wife Gaynor are responsible for Brickhill's growth groups. David is a founder member of YMCA Bedfordshire. He enjoys travelling, looking after a large garden and a small model railway. Previously from Cheshire, he and Gaynor have been members of Brickhill since 1972. They have two children and six grandchildren.
